This is our second Church service session. So we met at the same place, at the same time but in this session, another member was added to our roster. Her name’s the same as mine, Kristine. She is also a freshman and is studying in Letran.

Anyway, we went to Southville Village as soon as the 5 of us were complete. As we arrived there, kids were waiting in front of the school but the school was still padlocked. So we waited for a while until they unlocked the lock. When the school was opened, Brother Gian assembled us all and told the kids that he wouldn’t be starting the catechism session yet because only a few of them attended so he will be letting the 5 of us take charge of the afternoon’s activities. But before he left us, we sang “Making Melodies” as the day’s worship song. It was really fun because Bro Gian played the ukelele and all the kids sang — as in they sang with all their might! :) After that, MJ told the story of creation as I displayed the pictures that she drew. After that, JC and Reginald took over and did this little quiz about the story we told. Kristine gave candies to those who recited. After our story of creation, we played some ice breaker games so we went outside and gathered the kids there. The first game that we played is called “Bahay, Baboy, Bagyo”. The kids were supposed to group and un-group themselves whenever needed. The next game is called “The Boat Is Sinking”. It was really fun playing with the kids. It’s also funny because they’d do whatever they can do win the awesome candy prizes :). After the game, Bro Gian called the kids back to the classroom and gave some final announcements. The session ended great and it is really great to meet and make new friends. I can’t wait for next week! :D

This our second session in implementing our plan. As the title states, so far, so good! :)

In all sessions, I will be accompanying the Seminar and Docu Team. So after working out a few things with our Area Coordinator, Ate Analyn, we had the Eco Park as the venue for our seminars but the venue wasn’t ready so we had to manually move the chairs from the garage to the venue. Fortunately, we had borrowed a pedicab that eased the transportation of the chairs and the equipment. So we set up the chairs and the projector. Then, another problem sprout up! There wasn’t a power cord and VGA cable for the projector! But God is ALWAYS GOOD to us as we also found a way to work that problem out. Cha and I went to the barangay’s office and borrow the parts that we needed (binaklas namin yung computer XD). So, the place is set up, the laptop’s connected to the projector, the projector’s projecting, the only thing missing are the people who’s gonna attend. Again, God is Good, our preparations didn’t go down the drain as 6 parents attended, 8 if you also include Ate Analyn and the other BMMK representative.

So the seminar pushed through at around 10:30 i think. The topic for that day was about Proper Sanitation. Izu was the person in charge for that and I was really impressed by the way on how she handled her seminar. She connected with her audience and really researched her topic. She also provided ways on how to help keep up the sanitation in their area. At around 11:30, we served some pancit and Pop Cola to the 8 people. After Izu finished her talk, the rest of us did an ice breaker para mabuhayan ng dugo and to end the session with a bang. We sang and danced “Making Melodies”. It was really fun because all of us participated :D. After that, we cleaned up the venue and returned back to where the jeeps were parked. As mentioned above: So Far, So Good :D

That was my first day in doing my Church service. What the parish priest had in mid was to conduct catechism sessions and ready the kids to have their first communion. We were to meet at around 2pm each Sunday in front of our Church and then go to Southville Village (somewhere quite far from where the Church is). Anyway, there are four of us and the funny thing is that all of us are freshmen and JC is my blockmate, MJ is also a La Sallian, while Reginald is a former classmate of JC and is from UST. We were united by one common goal — to render our 10 (12 for Reginald) hours of Church Service as well as prepare and guide the kids :)

As we arrived in the area, we found out that the kids were not informed so we had to wait for a while as the coordinators spread out the info that there will be catechism sessions. As the four of us waited, we did this mini-meeting in planning what we’re gonna do with the kids with Brother Gian, our supervising personnel. The following are what we had agreed upon: Brother Gian is the one who is going to discuss the catechism sessions while we were going to assist him. Also, we are the ones who will do some ice breaker games and some story telling for the kids. Moments later, kids came and Bro. Gian led the classroom session. After his orientation, we introduced ourselves and listed the names of the kids and gave them the candies that we bought before they left :)

Finally! This is the day that we implement our project! Although there were some (or rather, a lot) of problems, we somehow managed to do what we have to do properly :)

I was part of the 10 people who are not part of the Tutorial Program of our project. As the sort of “supervisor” of the project, I accompanied the Seminar Team and Docu Team. We went to the Kawal Area first to drop off the 10 tutors there then we headed back to where the seminar was supposed to be held. Sadly, we were informed that the Eco Park (this is where the seminar area is supposed to be) was reserved at that time and we had to conduct the seminar at the parking area of our jeeps :(. Another sad thing happened when we knew that the parents weren’t well-oriented for no one attended what we had prepared for. What we had to do is go to the nearest computer shop and print then xerox flyers / handouts of the seminars to come. Next, we went house-to-house to promote / orient the parents of the next seminars we will be conducting. Somehow, the “adventure” we had doing that was fun :)

Prior to the printing and distribution of flyers, we checked out the Eco Park area. What basically happened on the whole day of our exposure is somewhat like a field trip. :)

This is our 2nd CWTS session as well as our second to the last classroom session. The whole class was devoted to finalizing our project. Truth be told, this is really stressful especially since I’m one of the core people organizing this thing. Even until now I still feel a bit stressed/worried because this will start this coming Saturday (January 21). Cooperation from every member is needed for this to work out.

There are a lot of key points that we talked about in our finalizing.

Seminars

Here, we talked about on how we divided the talks per week. Also on what we are going to give to the parents during each talk.

Tutorial

It came to our attention that we were to be divided into two areas. We assigned one of us to the two/three kids as stated in the list Ate Analyn/BMMK gave us.

Funds/Resource Mobilization

What the class has agreed upon is that we are going to sell keychains (which will be provided from a family within the community) and some ballers. Yesterday, while we were on the way to Calamba, this AWESOME idea just suddenly flashed into my mind. I called my friend who runs this business called Ceshirts and asked her if we could somehow form a partnership. We promote her products and integrate our cause with it and sell the shirts and other merchandises (for full details of this, see my post in the CWTS facebook group page :D). Another source of our resources is in the form of solicitation. My idea is to go back to our former high schools and ask if they are willing to help with our project. Another thing is that we are making these pad papers out of scratch test booklets which were provided by Miss Nats. She is really a big help in this project because the idea of making the pad papers even came from her :).

Somehow, we worked out most of the concerns of the project. After the finalization, Sir Gian did this little turn-over ceremony for us. He gave each of us this little box filled with simple things that will help us implement our plan.

The project starts next week. I know we can do this! :)

Last Saturday was our first CWTS session for this term. As I was waiting for the bus I was riding in to leave the terminal, I saw my friend Nievs (her real name is Patricia Nieva) and sabay na kami pumunta sa DLSU. Anyway, we arrived really early (I think it was around 7:30am?) so we went to our room and hanged out with Cha and Kyle. Later, the four of us went to the Velasco building to drop Nievs off since it was still early then the three of us returned to Gox.

Moments later, Sir Gian arrived and started class with an exam! It was okay since it only needed practical answers. Later, we did some team-building games because that is what we are supposed to be this entire term, a SOLID team that helps each other out.

After that each of us were given Mentos and Kisses. The activity was to give the Mentos to the person on your right and say “I think you’re cool ‘coz *fill in the blank*” and to give the Kisses to the person you think who is sweet and say why he/she is sweet.

Next is that all of us were given some colored paper and we have to write our name in the middle. What we have to do is write words of encouragement in it. I am so touched because my blockmates think of me as a leader of this project. My response to that is this: “I will live up to whatever you guys wrote there. I’m gonna do my BEST and really be the leader you guys expect me to be!

This is one of the last things we can do as a block (well, mostly). So let’s do our best and make a difference! Make and impact! :)
